Questions and answers
How Petrol.cy works, where the prices come from and what you can do with them.
Where do the prices on Petrol.cy come from?
From the official Fuel Price Observatory of the Cyprus Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry. Petrol stations report their prices to the Observatory, and Petrol.cy reads them every hour through the government's CY Connect service. Petrol.cy is independent and not affiliated with the Government of Cyprus.
How often are the prices updated?
Every hour. Each price shows when the station last reported it. Prices older than 7 days are marked as outdated and are left out of the averages.
What does Best value mean?
The cheapest station is not always the best choice. Petrol.cy estimates what a full tank saves you against the island average and subtracts the cost of driving there, so a good-value station nearby can rank above a slightly cheaper one across town.
Which fuels are covered?
Petrol 95, Petrol 98, diesel, heating oil and kerosene, at every station that reports them.
Why do prices differ between stations?
Each station sets its own prices, so they vary by brand and location. The page of each fuel shows today's cheapest and dearest stations and the island average.
Is Petrol.cy free? Do I need an account?
Yes, it is free and no account is needed. Price alerts only need an email address or a Telegram chat.
How do price alerts work?
Choose a fuel and a city, or all of Cyprus, and get a message when the price drops or falls below a price you set. Alerts come by email after you confirm your address, or in Telegram from @PetrolCY_bot, at most once a day for each alert. You can stop them at any time.
Is there a mobile app?
The site works on any phone and can be added to the home screen. There is also a Telegram bot, @PetrolCY_bot. Apps for iPhone and Android are coming soon.
Can I show these prices on my website?
Yes. The free widget shows live prices for a city or all of Cyprus: paste a short code snippet into your page. It sets no cookies and loads nothing from third parties.
Do you cover the north of Cyprus?
No. Petrol.cy shows the stations that report to the Cyprus Fuel Price Observatory, which covers the areas where the Government of the Republic of Cyprus exercises effective control. Stations in the northern part of the island are not included.
What if a price looks wrong?
Prices are published as the stations report them. If a price looks wrong, use Report a problem on the station page, and always check the price at the pump.
Is my location stored?
No. If you allow it, your position is used only to rank the stations near you and is not stored.
